United-Games presents you first part of "summer bombs". Our editor Jiří "Man1" Pacovský was talking with one of the most famous french moviemakers, FistOr.
FistOr is french moviemaker, who maked movies like "Around the World" or FistOr Connections series. But in last weeks he changed HLTV camera for video camera, because he is editor and photographer of team Against All Authority.
"I want say only that, we haven't enough time to chat. So I choose basic questions, which you would appreciate. If you will want know something special, I will make second interview with this oldschool moviemaker. You can write your questions here into this report and I'll send it to FistOr. I hope you will enjoy it, so close the doors, turn off the light sit down and read. Jiří "Man1" Pacovský
So first question, who is FistOr?
FistOr : FistOr is mainly a french moviemaker. Early in 2004 i started to make cs 1.6 fragmovies and kept doing this till now. But since 2007, most of my work is to make movies during e-sport events for team-aAa.com (french events and eswc). I have also been part of some other media coverage for team-aAa as a writer or photographer.
And who is hiding behind this nick?
FistOr : Behind FistOr is Antoine Descamps, a 21 years old student working at his 4th year of studies in computer science.
When did you start playing CS and why did you choose the way of moviemaker?
FistOr : I started playing cs at the time of the 1.1 version of the game. I was playing against bots and making 2on2 tournaments at a local cybercafe with my cousin. Then 1.5 came and i started a local team which achieved anything. I got quickly bored by playing in a team since i couldn't find the time for practice and i also couldn't see myself put so much time in the game. That's why i found something much more interesting with moviemaking and all its possibilities. I like to play but i'm not the kind of guy who wants to be that competitive in gaming, i like even more the "creative" aspect of gaming with fragmovies and e-sport events and tournaments with a media point of view.
Let's talk about your movies. How can you describe your "Around the World". I think it's one of the best movies which were maked.
FistOr : Around the World was a special movie as i wanted to make it as my own vision of a fragmovie. I wanted to put a very strong soundtrack with some of the best frags one my friend has been collecting for 2 years. I personally don't think it's one of the best movies ever made, but i just know that back in time, i did my best to mix a nice picture quality with synched frags on a cool music. And it's a 4 years old movie so i can't watch it nowadays without thinking "Damn what a crappy movie, can't believe i did this and this ! looks so noobish!".
What do you think about that "today" movies? They are filled by special effects from Adobe programs, MIRV demo tool, etc...
FistOr : I really think that the MIRV tool combined with advanced Adobe AE FX is a wonderful thing but it came way too late. Most of the north/west european movie scene is quite dead since 2 years (Chillside, Style etc.) and it seems like only newcomers are interested in taking a lot of their time in order to make a well edited movie. The problem in my opinion with them is that they seem much more focus in making a movie full of advanced fx than making a real fragmovie. I mean, the point of all this is to show some frags so why do we need to add some crappy 3D effects and X Ray Dog as an automatic choice of intro music. Hopefully some moviemakers try to make fresh movies with very cools ideas (Hush or more recently Pink Panther), but unfortunately it's a very minor part of the released movies and we are kind of stuck in this race of the "most fucking amazing MIRV FX that kick everyone's ass" in every movie.
Will you make some new "super" movie by oldschool style?:) I know that you release Fistor Connection 6, and frags from there looks like with aimbot :D Me and my friend were looking on that demo and just saying, lol?wtf?incredible..:D
FistOr : The thing is that the only way for me to release a fragmovie is to put as less time as possible in it. This "Fistor Connection" thing started with the will to release some of my frags but i couldn't spend more than 2 days in the editing so i decided to "fraps" everything and edit it as fast as possible. The thing is that i liked the result and i kept making movies like this for fun when i had enough frags. I'll maybe release a short movie in that "oldschool style" for a friend of mine next week, i don't know if i'll still have the motivation for doing it. Making fragmovies became really boring for me for the last 3 years. About the frags, you just have to know that i record all my mixgames so after 6 or 7 months you got enough frags and lucky shots for a "fistor connection", i truly think that everyone could make his own if he records every pcw/mixgame he does !
Come to non-PG fistOr..What you do in your free time?
FistOr : As i said before, i'm a student which means i try to equally split my freetime between studies, sport, friends/chicks and some other stuff. I think i'll even more focus into music in the future as an amateur DJ or moviemaker in clubs, didn't really decided right now. There are a lot more things i'm interested in but i can't find extra time for them. ;D
Do you know well french pro players? Or you meet them just on tournaments so you are in contact only with RL friends?
FistOr : I have been hanging around french events since 2005 as a media-guy so yes i'm kind of close with some of them. The thing is that i only meet them during tournaments since i live in a lost town in the middle of nowhere, i can't really have a very close contact with them except by vent/cs/irc. A lof of them remain good friends for me but not as important as RL friends.
Did you had feeling about you, that it told you "Why I stopped playing, I could be one of the best players"...
FistOr : Ahah absolutely not. In fact i don't really think i would have been such a great player. In order to become a "good" player you need to play with some other good players close to you. And in my area, except for my cousin i never found 3 other players with the same will and spirit than us, so i just gave up without any regret. The thing is that i really like to play just for fun with my friends. When everything become too serious it just bores me as hell.
So what do you think about french scene? It isnt much weeks ago when players were changing teams like shoes.
FistOr : I guess the french scene entered in a very strange phase. As you may know ESWC died a few months ago, but what you don't know is that all the french scene was built around this event. We had like a ladder where every LAN event gave points for a ranking where the 16 best teams had a chance at the end of the season to fight each other in the eswc french qualifier grand final. And now that everything collapsed, french players don't see the point of playing so much events if they can't fight for an eswc slot. It's very sad for us since we got two extremely good teams with emuLate and Millenium. I just hope players will find motivation to keep playing and participating in international events to represent France. Otherwise, i think the french scene is like every other national scene, very unstable ;D
Do you know some names from czech-slovakia scene?
FistOr : Right now i won't be able to give you some names but back in time i used to know some players and teams :p. That was the kind of team which was raped during eurocup tournaments i think ahah
And what about Illusion Pictures?
FistOr : Okay that one need a "big" answer. :D I think i'll be hated by everyone of your website, but I really hate what this crew does.
Why?
FistOr : Ahah i wouldn't consider myself as a such good moviemaker. :p But of course i heard of IP and i watched some of their movies. The thing is that i never enjoyed a single movie they produced. What they do represent everything i hate in cs moviemaking. Maybe it's a question of taste but i just can't handle the music, overused FX, aweful machinima attempts and really bad 3D scenes in all of them. I respect the time spent on these movies, and good for them if some people appreciate them but it's really not what i expect from a cs movie. I would rather tell the people to send their frag to flouchy for his upcoming movie ;D
Yeah i have same taste as you :D No for that i can't work with these super-duper programs, but for CS...Did you see Anihillation 2? The EPIC movie as someone calls it.
FistOr : Yeah ofc.
I think the frags are the best, players also, but every second one FX..
FistOr : Yeah a lot of fx but it was well made.
And what about your future, what will FistOr do? Just study?
FistOr : I would really like to find some extra motivation in order to make a "real" fragmovie as i wanted to do in the past 2 years but i know myself and my laziness when it comes to fragmovie ;p So i'll keep going in tournaments, filming players, making interview and keep an attentive eye in the esport scene. There'll also still be some more "Fistor Connection" if i keep playing with my friends. And as i said before i'll maybe be much more into the electro music scene, i can't really say right now!
I think you told us what we want to know. What about little shotout at the end?
FistOr : Sure :)

Is there anything what you want to say at the end?
FistOr : I would like to thank all the very nice people i met through cs and e-sport, especially flouchy, hepha, amaury, kefass, nico and some more who will recognize themself. :p would also to thank team-aAa for their support during these 4 awesome years and all the "positive" e-sport community, it has been good memories for me. And thank you for giving me the opportunity to express myself to this big community !
I want to thanks FistOr for giving me chance and also that he spent his expensive time with me. I want to thanks my brother. Pavel "dragonetty" Bodnár, who made this sick banner.
